Hands down, this is my favorite food truck ever! I have no idea what took me so long to blog and rave all over the place other than work about this truck.
Growing up in the south and now living in the Pacific Northwest, it’s very hard to find good southern/Cajun food out here- especially fried catfish. I’m crazy to admit that I pretty much go to this truck for lunch almost every Tuesday (when they are on 2nd & Pike St.). I can’t help myself, I love love LOVE fried food. Fried chicken, fried catfish, fried okra, fried bread, fried pickles…you get the picture.
Wait, don’t get me started on the fried crawfish beignets and fried softshell crab po’ boys… Okay, I will stop :)
Well, this is my go to for fried catfish normally other than Catfish Corner (which will be posted later). Jemil’s food truck brings that flavor of New Orleans that is not very prominent in Seattle. There are Cajun and southern restaurants around, but from a truck, he brings it!
Like I said before, I usually go and get the fried catfish, but the special of the day was fried chicken. After ordering it from them before, I just had to get it! I have basically become known as the girl who wants “just fish” by Candace and Jemil. I am greeted with a “Hey boo! Just fish? Just fish for Miss Adrienne here!” So when I order something different which is rare, they’re like “Whaaaat???” I do like to try different things from truck for example: the gumbo is absolutely delicious! The fried okra: BOMBDOTCOM! Jambalaya: spicy goodness! It’s just something about their catfish that to me, is the definition of NOMUMENTAL!
Here are some Instagram shots I took of the other menu items I mentioned:
fried catfish, soft-shell crab po’ boy, gumbo
and… the crawfish beignets!
The reason I went for the chicken this time is because of the spice from the batter and the juiciness from the chicken inside. It was fried perfectly! As I tell you to go for the fried catfish, I will say the specials and rest of the menu are just as great. Also, when the crawfish mac & cheese appears on the specials, go for it! Another word of advice, this truck opens on 2nd and Pike on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. so try to get there as early as you can. The line gets very long and for a darn good reason!
